栀子提取物为茜草科植物栀子的果实为原料加工制得，为红棕色粉末状。主要成分有栀子甙、山栀甙、栀子新甙、栀子甙酸、栀子黄素、番红花甙、番红花酸、鸡矢藤甙甲酯等。

栀子（学名：Gardenia jasminoides Ellis）别名：黄栀子、山栀、白蟾，是茜草科植物栀子的果实。栀子的果实是传统中药，属卫生部颁布的第1批药食两用资源，具有护肝、利胆、降压、镇静、止血、消肿等作用。在中医临床常用于治疗黄疸型肝炎、扭挫伤 、高血压、糖尿病等症。
